Nkorea rocket test, UNSC emergent meeting called
TOKYO: North Korea has tested long-rage rocket, while the U.S. Japan and South Korea have declared the Nkorea rocket test an open violation of UN resolution and an emergent meeting of the United Nation Security Council (UNSC) has been called on the demands of these countries.Meanwhile Russian and China have pleaded restraint in reactions to the North Korea rocket launch condemnations. North Korea said that it has sent a communication satellite into the space under its peaceful satellite program. However, a statement issued from the Japanese prime minister office said that North Korea missile test was threatening, as it could target Japan. The statement said that the missile passing over Japan fell into the Japanese sea.U.S. declaring it a long-rage missile strongly condemned it. US State Department termed it an open violation of the UN resolution and said that Pyongyang with this missile wanted to develop the capability of targeting U.S territory.President Barack Obama said North Korea should refrain from further provocative actions after that nation's government made good on their promise to launch a long-range rocket. ``I urge North Korea to abide fully by the resolutions of the U.N. Security Council,'' the president said as the council approved an emergency session Sunday to deal with North Korea's rocket launch. At the State Department in Washington, spokesman Fred Lash said North Korea launched a rocket at 10:30 p.m. EDT Saturday (0230 GMT). North Korea had informed international authorities that it planned to launch a rocket sometime between Saturday and Wednesday to put a satellite into orbit. But the U.S., South Korea, Japan and others suspect it is a cover for testing a long-range missile for the North, which has nuclear weapons. Leaders from those countries had warned Pyongyang not to proceed with the planned rocket launch. They fear such a test could be a first step toward putting a nuclear warhead on a missile capable of reaching Alaska and beyond. `North's Korea's development, deployment and proliferation of missiles, ballistic missile-related materials, equipment and technologies pose a serious threat to the northeast Asia region and to the international community,'' Lash said. Lash added that the North Korean action violated United Nations Security Council Resolution 1718. The council adopted the 2006 resolution five days after North Korea conducted a test of a nuclear weapon. The resolution also demanded that North Korea not conduct any further nuclear tests or launch of a ballistic missile.UNSC emergent meeting has been called on the demand of U.S., South Korea and जापान.
A suspected US missile strike in north-west Pakistan, the second drone attack in four days, has killed 13 people.
Local officials in North Waziristan, near the Afghan border, said the dead included women and children as well as militants - some of them foreigners.
But a Taleban spokesman denied this, saying all those killed were civilians.
The US military does not routinely confirm drone attacks, but US forces in Afghanistan are believed to be the only ones in the region with the capability.
Pakistan is critical of drone use because, it says, civilians are often killed, fuelling support for militants.
